A Comparative Study of Indoor Kitchen Air Quality and Outdoor Ambient Air Quality
Abstract
The Cooking activity makes a substantial contribution to indoor pollution. Indoor air pollution (IAQ) has become a significant environmental and public health concern in recent years in countries like India, where 48.5% of the Indian population i.e. women cooks daily. In this paper an Internet of Things (IoT) based model is developed to compare the air quality outside and inside the kitchen while cooking. The proposed model measures the level ofkey harmful gases like Carbon Monoxide (CO), Carbon Dioxide (CO) insidethe kitchen while cooking and outside the building. The proposed model comprises ESP8266 microcontroller, MQ series gas sensors, Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and jumper wires. The collected data reveals that there is a significant impact of cooking on the key pollutants gases, and there is a spike in the level of gas concentration while cooking inside the kitchen.
